Keyword research plays an important role in your digital marketing strategy and is essential for your company’s website to generate organic traffic.
Follow the evolution
In theory, tracking traffic with keywords is enough to see which is growing and contributing the most to the company and which is decreasing. It is one way to measure how much investment in link building is converting to a company’s profit.
However, this type of analysis is incomplete and leaves some important things as it will only take into account the conditions in which your company is in a good position.
For example, if your company is from 80º to 11º, you hardly feel any tangible results. (The overwhelming majority of clicks on the homepage) However, this does not mean that the work is ineffective or that the investment is wasted. On the other hand: If the company continues at this moment, it may soon be at the top and can reap results.
Another important issue is that Google has stopped sending keywords to all users who are signed in with a Google Account for a while. And the number of users in these conditions is greatly increased.
As of February 2012, the percentage of our blog traffic to Google not showing that search query was less than 4.5%.
Just 1 year later (not listed) this month, 55% of our reach is through organic search.
Under these conditions, the measurement of vocabulary evolution will become more difficult and unreliable if we only analyze traffic and conversion. Ranking appears as a complementary option.
Specify algorithm changes.
Okay, if you’re in the top spot on many words and are hampered by some algorithm changes, you’ll notice a sharp drop in traffic and conversions and run into trouble.
The point is when your company invests in content. But without high power, most conditions are placed in the middle rank in the rankings. Being on page 2 or 3 of the search results is not enough to get traffic. But it’s already part of the optimization path.
However, if the algorithm update gets the company to page 8, it won’t feel any concrete difference as there is no traffic and there will be no traffic yet. However, this is relevant information in the optimization work, and course modifications may be required.
Here again, the ranking will come in handy.
Important precautions
Being first for a particular keyword cannot be guaranteed of anything. Ranking is not a final goal or even a measure of ROI, which, while we guard against it, has to be leads and sales. However, it is a useful indicator to guide you in optimizing and evaluating the results of your page optimization efforts and link building.
It is also dangerous to keep ratings steady and accurate traffic predictions accordingly. Search results become more and more private, and a ranking check shows the keyword’s position to only one user over a period of time. Think of it as the typical average value support point. But it’s not 100% accurate.
