Google Ads: Set goals in mind
Getting started with a Google Ads campaign
Before you start creating a campaign, you need to make sure you have goals in mind.
We’ll explain why having goals is important, examples of goals, their impact on the type of Google Ads campaigns you should run, and how to track whether you’re successful in meeting them. Let’s get started.
Why is having a goal so important?
Your goals strongly determine how you will set up campaigns, how they work and how you track them to be successful. With your goals leading up to so many pieces of things about your campaign, if you don’t have it, it will be very difficult to build a solid campaign. It’s like trying to drive a car without a steering wheel, you can’t go very far.
Target example:
Building brand awareness
Lead generation
Increased site traffic
More sales
Remarketing
How has my goals changed as to which campaign type I should run?
Depending on what kind of goal you are trying to achieve, there are campaigns that will perform better than others. For example, if your goal is to generate leads. You may want a Search campaign that includes a display campaign. Both of these are great for showing up to new users who are looking for what you sell. Or, if you want to increase sales on your ecommerce site, you may want to set up a Shopping campaign.

How can I track the success of my Google Ads campaigns?
convert! To ensure your goals are successful, you need to make sure that you are tracking actions that users can take on your site, known as conversions. Conversions vary slightly from company to company, but a common example of conversions is submission. Contact forms, email clicks, phone calls, newsletter subscriptions, and purchases / sales.
You always need to make sure that you have all conversions set up correctly in order to be able to track the performance of your campaign.
